This Zuni Indian Jewelry Turquoise Silver Traditional Corn Necklace is sensational. This is a fine piece of hand made traditional American Indian jewelry. This necklace features Pueblo Indian images of blue corn made from hand cut, hand etched stones of genuine Sleeping Beauty Turquoise (the Tiffany of Turquoise). These gorgeous sky blue Turquoise stones have been set in brilliant displays of shimmering Sterling Silver. Turquoise and Silver, the perfect combination. The Native American jewelry artists of the Zuni Pueblo often use Sleeping Beauty Turquoise to bring honor to the Father Sky. The box link chain gives this sensational piece of Turquoise jewelry complete flexibility. The total length of this American Indian necklace is 17-1/4". The matching post earrings are 7/8" long. Signed in script by the Zuni Indian jewelry artist Bowekaty.


The Zuni Indians learned to silversmith from the Navajo in the early 1870's. The Zuni, because they had permanent homes unlike the nomadic Navajo, were able to use many tools that the Navajo could not easily carry with them. With the lapidary wheels they began cutting stones and using the silver to hold their stones in patterns. Today, Zuni silversmiths are known for their lapidary skills. Both channel inlay (using precisely cut stones set on silver to form figures and designs) and cluster and needlepoint (setting small, similarly cut stones in geometric patterns) are traditional Zuni styles.
